Finish This! Week #25

This game is called "Finish This," and all you have to do is finish the following prompts and link up your post below! You can also visit the other hosts of this party on their fun blogs: Nicole {Three 31} Lisa {Coastlined}, Jen {The Arizona Russums} and Becky {The Java Mama}.

I have a quarter to use a pay phone, I call … Adam. Seriously I never talk on the phone so I'd likely give him a call, check in, see how things are going..

I found $25 in my pocket, I buy … Well, I'd first start by couponing for whatever I actually do need to buy, so that I could stretch that $25 a little farther... mostly likely, I'd try to get ahead on groceries, diapers, formula, etc.   If all of that was done and I was getting to "spoil" myself, I would probably either go out to dinner or get a manicure (I think I get one like once a year...)

I have 25 minutes to watch anything on TV, I turn on … either baseball and if that's not on, I'd probably catch up on some sort of garbage TV.. I like RHOC, Catfish (yes, I'm old but I can't get enough of that show!), Rizzoli and Isles (because I love crime shows), but my FAVORITE show is Nashville, I've talked about this before... but since it's summer and on hiatus I'd probably default to one of the above.

A meal I can prepare, from start to finish. in 25 minutes or less is … sloppy joes.  My neighbor gave me the BEST recipe for homemade sloppy joes (or bbqs as they are called by some folks).  They are absolutely incredible!!

At the age of 25, I wish I had known … How all of my choices mold and shape who I've become and if I can't be proud of the choice, or if I didn't want my dad or grandma to see it, then I shouldn't do it.  I look back on some of the poor decisions I made, and yes I've grown and learned from them, but sometimes I wish I had a do over.

If I drove 25 miles (direction) from my house, I’d be in the St Croix River.  I live in Wisconsin near the border of Minnesota, so if I drove West 25 miles, I'd literally be in the dividing river between the 2 states.  If I drove, North, South, or East,  I'd be in a corn field.  I think there's actually a college about 25 miles East of me, so I guess there's that, but since I do most of my activities in Minnesota, that's where my mind went... (My work is 1 exit away from Mall of America... hard to do anything in Wisconsin when all your needs are in the metro!).

Prompts for WEEK 26 (July 2) are:
It’s never too late …
I compare myself to others …
My personality is …
I can …
I embrace change …

Sloppy Joe Recipe (or BBQs depending on where you're from!)

This is an old family recipe from my neighbor... I absolutely LOVE these!

1lb Hamburger
1 can of tomato soup
1/2 large or 1 small onion - diced
1/2 cup ketchup
Salt/pepper to taste
1 tsp vinegar
1 tbsp brown sugar
Worchester sauce (a few drips)

Brown hamburger, onion, drain well. Add remaining ingredients and simmer on low to medium heat. Serve on hamburger buns.

Finish This! Week #24

I could spend all day … laying on my couch catching up on DVR... I haven't had much of a "me" break lately and all I imagine doing is napping and simply doing nothing lately!

My primary and most essential goal in life … is to be the best girlfriend/mother/daughter/sister/friend I can possibly be. Although the last one "Friend" I have been a little wrapped up with this new family life that I'm not nearly the friend I once was.  I don't have too many friends out there but am thankful for the ones that I do have!

You might be surprised to learn … I'm obsessed with watching baseball. I am a season ticket holder for the Minnesota Twins for the 3rd year.  I watch nearly every single game and even did so on the road (with MLB.TV).  I rarely miss a game and usually it's my boyfriend who is asking me updates on baseball, standings, and stats.  I love it!

My favorite place in the world is …up North at the cabin.  I love being up in the middle of nowhere surrounded by trees and quiet.  Plus there's this little bakery up there that has the BEST sourdough bread I've ever had!

I wish I had known sooner … how hard it would be to lose this baby weight!!  I must read too much People magazine because I think I had it in my head that after the first few months I'd be back to my normal size again. Clearly I have learned what reality is when it comes to losing baby weight.

Finish This! Week #23

The best compliment I ever received … was being told that I'm doing a good job as a mom.  Being a first time mom is scary. Everything is new and exciting but you wonder if you really are doing a good job?  I mean, people ask me questions I don't know the answers to, then of course I question am I not doing enough?  (Ie: What milestones should G be reaching at 5 months.. umm.. well.... )  Yeah I haven't read that far.  I'm just so darn excited my sweet boy is laughing that I forget to try and figure out what comes next.  I used to be such a planner but with G I just love living in the moment with him!

Wearing red lipstick makes me feel … obnoxious.  I'm not a bright lipstick color girl and I most definitely am not one to EVER wear red.  I don't ever want to be someone who stands out for any reason and most definitely not because I wear red lipstick. It would make me feel self-conscious and Lord knows I don't need another reason to feel that way!

The best investment I’ve made … while I'd like to say my education because that certainly is costly each month as I watch my bank account dwindle from both undergrad and grad loans... it has not been the best investment (i've worked for the same company for 15 years and having advanced degrees simply do not matter). By far hands down it has been my house.  I bought it in 2011 as a foreclosure and it only needed cosmetic updates. We have had so much fun (err.. Rather, I have had fun) with all of the changes we've made the house.  I'm not handy but Adam is and every time I start a sentence with "Honey.. I have an idea..."  He nearly runs away.  Currently we are repairing our roof, adding a wrap around deck, re-doing our bathroom, and finishing our garage (and heating it.)  This winter I plan to repaint our cabinets and I'd like to start building (thank you Pinterest!) our Farmhouse style bed.

My best childhood memory … spending days at my Grandma Kay's house.  She had a candy drawer and always bought the best (Apricot) Fruit-Roll ups.  She played and played and played with me (and my brothers) until she simply couldn't play anymore. I have such fond memories of playing cards (Crazy 8s, slapjack, and memory) with her at a very young age.  She was a pretty amazing grandma!

Now it’s your turn. Answer these prompts in a post on your own blog or, if you do not have a blog, simply add your responses in a comment. Join us next Wednesday for another round of Finish This where we’ll answer the prompts below!

Finish This! -- Week #22

I conquer fear… hmm.. I don't really think that I do.  I'm terrified of fish and I vow I will never try to conquer that fear. I won't eat them, won't look at them (even goldfish), won't swim in lakes, won't appreciate an aquarium. In fact, I'm quite content with being afraid of them. I don't ever see us being friends.

I follow my heart … only when it comes to love.. nearly everything else, I follow my head.  I've vented about things with Adam in the last posts so won't add many details but we are definitely in an opposites attract relationship. And one that many days I feel has run its course. I need to get back to loving the things that initially attracted me to him and not get so wound up over them. For example, I am not social, Adam is very social.  I liked this when I first met him because it encouraged me to get out, meet people, and now it drives me crazy!  I would rather just stay home and not invite people over or meet up with people - and he's always suggesting we get together with folks.

I feed my soul by… hiking.  I bought a year pass to the state park this summer and have really enjoyed going there on a weekly basis. A friend and I hike a 4 mile path on Thursdays that at the mid-point has a waterfall which is incredible (I think I posted a picture of this in a previous post).  I also just found out that Lisa Simpson-Rambo (Biggest Loser - Season 14) will be hosting a bootcamp each Monday this summer with a pre-hike at the park so am even MORE excited about my season pass. YAY!

I used to worry about ____ but then I … I used to always be concerned about what people thought of me.  I worried about my outward appearance, what people thought of my personality and would be so stressed out in social situations.  Although I'm not nearly as confident and self-assured as I would like to be, I am much more mature about how to handle myself than I was years ago.

Prompts for WEEK 23 (June 11) are:
The best compliment I ever received …
Wearing red lipstick makes me feel …
The best investment I’ve made …
